How did your journey into the wedding industry begin?
My first career was as the co-director of a corporate event management company. I started that when I was 21 and sold it after 8 years to start After the Rock. The seed was planted after I helped plan my brothers wedding in the South of France. After witnessing producing the best day of their lives as a couple so far, I knew I wanted to do it again and again.
Did you always have a clear vision of what you wanted to do?
I always knew I would be in a field that mixed equal parts artistry and practicality. I do believe I somewhat 'fell' into wedding planning, and I'm so glad I did.
What do you love most about planning weddings?
Learning about the couples and what makes them tick. I love getting to know them implicitly and bringing ideas to the table that are a true reflection of them as a couple. When you look at an After the Rock Wedding they are always so different. I think we leave our stamp on it, however each wedding is completely different and I'm so proud of that.
When it comes to creating unique wedding experiences, what fuels and drives your creativity?
I'm inspired by international events, fashion, art, architecture, interior design, the incredible suppliers we work with and those who work across the globe that we admire from afar like florists, candle makers, cake artists, ceramicists, artisans, and most importantly - I'm inspired by the couples and the experiences and vibe they bring to their wedding planning. I learn on every single event. It keeps it all so exciting and interesting for me. Creativity is endless in the world of weddings when you open your mind to the possibilities.
Can you walk us through the process of designing the ring? How did you and Jessica Namdar bring this vision to life?
After having pieces made myself and also my clients having engagement and wedding bands created by Jessica Namdar - I knew that quality and care would be at the forefront of what was created. We started with a storm of ideas, back and forth bouncing concepts and things we loved. We create weddings matched by only flights of the imagination so it was only natural that that's where we started.
After refining concepts, Charlotte presented a number of ideas and started the process of refining our ideas. After the initial concept was rendered we gave feedback and the prototype was made. And from there, the magic was created.
How did you come up with the concept for the collaboration? What inspired the idea?
Just like marriage, quality jewellery is meant to last a lifetime - and of course be passed on through generations - telling a story to be intertwined through families and told around dinner tables for centuries to come. I essentially wanted something that was an heirloom piece. Something that could be bought before or...
After the Rock. I wanted the shape to feel feminine and soft, an undulation of gold enveloping the finger. The cross represents balance and harmony. Emeralds are a life-affirming stone. They open the heart chakra and calm the emotions.
They provide inspiration, balance, wisdom, and patience. It is said to promote friendship, peace, harmony, and domestic bliss by enabling the wearer to both give and receive unconditional love. I couldn't think of anything more fitting to wear as a reminder at all times. A perfect piece to gift as an heirloom piece from husband to wife on their wedding day, to yourself as a reminder of what you want from marriage - an anniversary gift, Valentines Day gift. And something to pass on to the next generation to remind them of this beautiful message you carried through your life.
How did you approach merging the aesthetics and styles of both Jessica Namdar and the wedding planning industry into a single piece?
We don't follow trends, we set them and we make them timeless. I think that is the essence of both of our businesses and what we strive for.
What were the important elements you were keen on incorporating into the design of the ring? How did you ensure those elements were represented effectively?
The ring had to have meaning, It had to be of the utmost quality and be something that will be treasured. It had to tell a story and it had to make the wearer feel like they were beholding something of beauty that will be admired. It had to tell a love story - and I think we achieved that with this very special piece.
